Who We Are
Why We Began
We Spent 20+ Years In This Industry. Then We Built The Company We Wished Existed.
Covera Shades is a newer name. The people behind it are not. Between us we have more than twenty years of measuring, making and installing window coverings across Toronto and the GTA, most of it working for other companies, and it was there that we saw what this industry does to its customers.
We watched windows measured once and rounded down to a stock size, so the finished shade threw a bar of light down the jamb every morning for the rest of its life. We watched jobs sold by one person and handed to a subcontractor who had never seen the room. We watched quotes come in low and invoices come in high, with brackets, fascia and disposal appearing on the bill after the fact. We watched people spend an hour in a showroom being steered toward whatever carried the best margin. And we watched a lot of beautiful Toronto glass dressed in builder blinds that were never meant to stay.
So we started Covera to do the whole thing properly. Every opening measured at three heights and three widths and cut to the narrowest. Every piece made to those numbers, not to a size on a shelf. The person who measures is the person who installs. The proposal is the price, and it arrives in writing within 48 hours. Five years of warranty with the labour included, because if the fit is wrong it is our fault and our cost. And the samples come to your residence, held against your own glass at the hour you actually use the room, so the decision is made by you and not by a salesman.
That is the whole idea. Give people the best shades and the best service this city has seen, at a price that does not grow, and let the referrals do the rest. More than a thousand residences in, most of our work still arrives through someone who had us in their building, which keeps us honest about the only two things that matter: the piece must fit, and the room must feel finer with it than without.
What We Set Out To Fix
Four Things This Industry Gets Wrong, And What We Do Instead.
Stock Sizes Sold As Custom
A window measured once, rounded down to the nearest size on the shelf, and a stripe of light down the jamb every morning after. We measure every opening at three heights and three widths and cut to the narrowest.
The Installer You Never Met
The person who sold the job hands it to a subcontractor who has never seen the room. With us, the person who measured your windows is the person who hangs your pieces.
The Invoice That Grows
A low quote, then brackets, fascia, disposal and labour appear on the bill. Our proposal is the price. We have never issued an invoice larger than the proposal it came from.
The Showroom Push
An hour under fluorescent light being steered toward the fabric with the best margin. We bring the samples to your glass, at your hour, and tell you plainly when the cheaper option is the right one.

How It Unfolds
Four Steps, And Only One Of Them Is Yours.
01
The Consultation
About an hour, complimentary
We arrive at your residence with the full sample book, consider the light at the hour you truly use the room, and talk through what each fabric will and will not do. A written proposal follows within 48 hours.
02
The Measure
Usually the same visit
Every opening is measured at three heights and three widths, because almost no window in this city is truly square. The narrowest reading is the one we cut to.
03
The Making
Two to three weeks
Your pieces are cut and assembled to your numbers, never to a stock size rounded down. Each one is checked against the order before it leaves our hands.
04
The Installation
One visit
Brackets set, pieces hung, every unit cycled and levelled, and the packaging taken away with us. Motorized systems are commissioned and paired before we leave.
What We Hold To
Four Principles, Kept Since The First Commission.
One Opening At A Time
There is no stock size in our collection. Every piece is made for the window it will live in, which is the only way to avoid a seam of light down the jamb.
The Proposal Is The Price
Measuring, brackets, fascia, disposal and labour are all within the figure we give you. What we write down is what you pay.
We Install Our Own Work
The person who measured your windows is the person who hangs your pieces. Nothing is passed to a subcontractor who has never seen the room.
Child Safe As Standard
Cordless or tensioned by default in every home with children, meeting the current Health Canada rules without asking you to pay for a retrofit.

We look at the windows, talk about light, and leave you with a proposal. Many people take it away and consider it for a month. That is entirely as it should be.
