Privacy policy & terms of service
Last updated October 11, 2026
This page has two parts. The Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect and how we handle it, in keeping with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). The Terms of Service set out how we work with you on consultations, orders, installation and warranty, in keeping with Ontario’s Consumer Protection Act. Nothing here limits any right you have under those laws.
Privacy Policy
Who we are
Covera Shades (“Covera”, “we”, “us”) is a window covering business based in Toronto, Ontario, serving the Greater Toronto Area. We are the organization responsible for the personal information described here. Questions about this policy go to coverashades@gmail.com or (905) 261-6800.
What we collect
- What you give us: your name, phone number, email address, the address and building of the residence, the rooms and windows you want dressed, and anything you write or photograph for us in a form, an email, a text or a call.
- What the order creates: window measurements, fabric and hardware selections, proposals, invoices, payment records (we never store full card numbers), installation notes and warranty history.
- What the website records: standard server logs kept by our hosting provider, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you visit and the time of the visit. The site stores a small value in your browser to keep the offer timer consistent for your visit; it identifies nothing about you. The site also runs the Meta Pixel, an advertising measurement tool from Meta Platforms (Facebook and Instagram). It records that a page was viewed or a consultation requested, and sets cookies in your browser to recognise a visit that began from one of our advertisements.
Why we collect it
To answer your enquiry, book and carry out the consultation, prepare a proposal, make and install your order, handle payment, honour the warranty, keep the records the law requires us to keep, measure and improve our advertising, and, with your consent, tell you about offers. We collect only what those purposes need.
Consent
By giving us your information for one of the purposes above you consent to our using it for that purpose. You may withdraw consent at any time by contacting us, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice; withdrawing consent may mean we cannot complete an order.
Marketing messages and CASL
We send commercial electronic messages (email or text) only where you have given consent or where CASL otherwise permits it, such as an existing business relationship. Every such message identifies us and carries a working unsubscribe, which we act on within ten business days. We do not sell or rent our contact list.
Who we share it with
- Service providers that host this website, deliver our form submissions and email, and process payments. They may only use your information to provide the service to us.
- Meta Platforms, through the Meta Pixel on this website. Meta receives the pages you view and, when you send us a consultation request, your name, email address, phone number and city in hashed form: each is turned into a code in your browser before it is sent, so that Meta can check it against its own accounts without receiving it in a readable form. Meta uses this to measure our advertising and to show it to people likely to be interested, under its own data policy. You can limit this through your Facebook or Instagram ad settings or your browser.
- Fabricators and suppliers who make your pieces, who receive the measurements and selections and nothing more than the job requires.
- Your building, where property management asks for a certificate of insurance or an elevator booking in your name for the installation.
- Authorities, where the law requires it.
Some of our service providers store data outside Canada, including in the United States, where it is subject to the laws of that jurisdiction. We use providers with recognized security practices and contractual protections.
How long we keep it
As long as needed for the purpose it was collected for: through the order, the five year warranty period that follows installation, and the period Canadian tax law requires us to keep business records (generally six years). Enquiries that do not lead to an order are deleted within two years. Information is then securely destroyed or anonymized.
How we protect it
Access is limited to the people who need it to do the work, accounts are protected by strong credentials, and our providers encrypt data in transit and at rest. No method is perfect; if a breach creates a real risk of significant harm we will notify you and the Privacy Commissioner as PIPEDA requires.
Your rights
You may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask how it has been used and to whom it has been disclosed, or withdraw consent. Write to coverashades@gmail.com. We respond within thirty days. If you are not satisfied with our answer you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Children
This website and our services are directed to adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top tells you when it last changed, and material changes will be posted here.
Terms of Service
1. The agreement
These terms apply to your use of this website and to every consultation, proposal, order and installation from Covera. By booking a consultation or accepting a proposal you agree to them. If you are a consumer in Ontario, the Consumer Protection Act applies and nothing in these terms limits the rights it gives you.
2. Consultations and proposals
The in-home consultation is complimentary and carries no obligation. A written proposal follows and is valid for 30 days. The proposal is the full price for the scope it describes, including measuring, materials, hardware, installation, removal of existing coverings and applicable taxes. Changes to the scope after acceptance are quoted in writing before work proceeds.
3. Orders, deposits and payment
An order is placed when you accept the proposal in writing and pay the deposit stated on it. The balance is due on completion of installation unless the proposal says otherwise. HST is charged where applicable. Pieces remain our property until paid in full.
4. Your right to cancel
Where an agreement is made at your home (a “direct agreement” under Ontario’s Consumer Protection Act) and is worth more than $50, you may cancel it for any reason within 10 days of receiving your written copy, by giving us notice in writing. We refund everything you have paid within 15 days. Because every piece is made to your measurements, an order cannot be cancelled after that period once production has begun, except as the law otherwise provides or as we agree in writing.
5. Measurement, access and installation
- We take every measurement and are responsible for the fit of what we make to those measurements.
- You agree to give us access at the agreed time, to clear the windows and move fragile items, and to help arrange any building requirements such as elevator bookings. Where property management requires it we file our certificate of insurance.
- We are fully insured and covered by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board. Hardwired motor supply is completed by a licensed electrician.
- Lead times on the proposal are estimates, usually two to three weeks. We tell you promptly of any delay. If a delay caused by us exceeds 30 days beyond the estimated date you may cancel the affected pieces for a full refund of what you have paid for them.
6. Warranty
Every piece we make and install is warranted for five years from installation against defects in materials and workmanship, including our measurement and our installation, with labour included. If it is our error we repair, remake or replace it at our cost. The warranty does not cover normal wear, fading, misuse, damage caused by others or by the building, alterations, or pieces moved to another opening. Any longer manufacturer warranty on motors or fabrics passes to you. This warranty is in addition to, and does not limit, any warranty implied by law.
7. Promotions
Offers such as “$500 off” are applied on the proposal, one per order, to orders that meet the conditions stated with the offer at the time it is made. They have no cash value, cannot be combined with other offers unless stated, and may be changed or withdrawn at any time.
8. This website
The text, photographs, film and marks on this site belong to Covera or its licensors and may not be copied for commercial use. We work to keep the site accurate, but fabric colours vary between screens and the real thing, which is why we bring samples to you. Links to other sites are provided for convenience and we are not responsible for their content.
9. Liability
To the extent the law allows, our total liability in connection with an order is limited to the amount you paid for the pieces concerned, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded under Ontario or Canadian law, including for negligence causing personal injury.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes are brought in the courts of Ontario, without prejudice to your right as a consumer to use the remedies of the Consumer Protection Act, including a complaint to the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery.
